The Graveyard Book

This novel, a cherished piece in my collection, weaves a narrative around Nobody Owen, a young boy who survives the assassination of his parents when he was an infant. He gets adopted by the spirits in a graveyard. As he embarks on a journey through adventures and the complexities of human emotions, he leverages the skills acquired in the graveyard to counter his relentless pursuers.

In the realm of this book, the author employs a distinctive, magical style, viewing the world of souls and the living through the lens of the protagonist, betwixt life and death. This narrative choice invites readers to join the protagonist in navigating a world teeming with a poignant dance between life and death.

My artistic approach draws profound inspiration from Tim Burton, who, in setting up his animation landscapes, consciously sidesteps conventional lines, opting for a whimsical absence of horizontal, vertical, or parallel constraints. This deliberate choice imparts a peculiar and unrestrained freedom to his dark fairy tales.

In crafting my series of works, I endeavor to narrate this story using unconventional perspectives and compositions. Considering the graveyard setting, I draw upon an unsaturated color palette to evoke a mysterious and enigmatic ambiance, mirroring the fog-shrouded allure of the cemetery.

In essence, my creative journey seeks to echo the whimsy and unconventional storytelling found in both the novel and the artistic ethos of Tim Burton. Through my visual narratives, I invite viewers to explore a world where the extraordinary and the mundane intertwine, much like the delicate dance between life and death depicted in the narrative that inspired my work.
